A vote for Keadilan is a vote to reclaim the spirit of independence: a nation that is truly free – free of crime and corruption, with jobs and opportunities for all. Yesterday, as I launched the new, Merdeka slogan for our campaign, I said that “Merdeka means whether rich or poor, factory worker or ministers, all are the same”. This campaign has been gaining momentum since Saturday when more than 50,000 people came to the nomination center in Permatang Pauh to support my candidacy. Pakatan Rakyat supporters outnumbered the other side by more than seven times. [Click here to watch nomination day video]
Since then we have brought a message of hope and optimism to the people of Permatang Pauh. They know that their votes on August 26th will affect the entire country and they are taking seriously the need for a change in our leadership to promote national unity, to build a stronger economy and to meet the needs of the poor and marginalised people.
Supporters from all over Malaysia have come to Permatang Pauh to support the campaign, realising that never before have the people of Malaysia played such an important role in the future of the country.
The Election Commission, up to its usual biased tactics, scheduled polling day for a weekday. The other side hopes that by reducing voter turnout they can score a symbolic victory on August 26. So it is important to urge family and friends who you know from Permatang Pauh to vote for Keadilan. We need your help to get voters out to the polling stations on Tuesday.
Our online fundraising campaign launched last week has been enormously successful. Many who do not have credit cards have asked for other ways to contribute. Below is information on how to donate to the campaign by wire transfer or by check, or donate online.
